LAOS, EPC CONTRACTS ON HYDROPOWER PLANTS SIGNED
EPC contracts have been recentlysigned between CCCE, Electricite du Laos (EdL) and local hydropower plant developer. EdL, as a state-owned corporation under the Ministry for Energy and Mines, owns and operates the country’s main generation, transmission and distribution assets in Lao PDR. Joint venture made by EdL and local hydropower plant developer will act as the owner of the plants. The contracts are on hydropower plant projects implementation for Nam Ngiep 2AB, Nam Ngiep 2C, Nam Phak and Nam The. Accumulative installed capacity of the hydropower plants will be over 60 MW. All generated electricity power will be sold to the Lao national power grid.
At present, Laos has about 20 dams with combined installed power of 3,000MW. In 2015, this figure is expected to reach 5,735MW, and 11,909MW in 2020, according to a report from the Ministry of Energy and Mines.
The Lao government is also encouraging local investors to build small dams of about 15MW to supply power for local consumption.
