LAOS, MOU ON HYDRO SIGNED
A Memory of Understanding (MOU) was made recentlybetween CCCE and HEC, as local developer, in witness of Electricitedu Laos (EdL), a state-owned corporation under the Ministry for Energy and Mines which owns and operates the country’s main generation,transmission and distribution assets in Lao PDR.
The MOU is on developing and construction of 3 hydropower plants named Ban Tha, NamNgam and Nam Nga 2.The combined installed capacity of those 3 hydropower plants is expected over 45MW. To date, the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Feasibility Study (FS) have been well completed. CCCE will be the EPC contractor. All generated electricity power will be sold to the Lao national power grid.
At present, Laos has about 20 dams with combined installed power of 3,000MW. In 2015, this figure is expected to reach 5,735MW, and 11,909MW in 2020, according to a report from the Ministry of Energyand Mines. The government is also encouraging local investors to build small dams of about 15MW to supply power for local consumption.
